Cornyn Fig Leaf Immigration Amendment

If you're keeping an eye on the immigration bill currently under consideration in the Senate, the Senate Conservatives Fund website has a good over-view of one of the more concerning amendments.  Senator Cornyn is offering an amendment that is the first itteration in a strategy to provide Republicans with a way to vote for the Gang of Eight's bill, while still pretending to be tough on immigration.   

Last week, over 100 amendments were filed to the Senate’s immigration bill yet only three votes were held. This doesn’t mean the Senate wasn’t busy. The hard work took place inside the Republican Conference where a massive search is underway for a change to the bill — a fig leaf — that will help Republican senators defend their votes for amnesty. Currently, the fig leaf that’s getting the most attention is the “RESULTS” amendment authored by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).

According to the Heritage Foundation, the amendment does not guarantee any results before the current illegal immigrants transition to Registered Provisional Immigrant (RPI) status, i.e., receive amnesty:
